The
Gold Coast
Airport Marathon will, once again, be providing pace runners at
this years Gold Coast Airport Marathon on July 5 in both the
Marathon and Half Marathon.
Find out who this
years pace runners are here.
Full details about the pace runner
concept can be found
here.
I will be sponsoring the pace runner concept
and the pace runners will be known as
the “PatCarrollOnline Pacers”.
I am therefore
asking for expressions of interest from runners who would like
to be a pace runner in the Half Marathon or Marathon for the
following time slots:
Half Marathon
1.20 1.30
1.40 1.50 2hrs 2.10 2.20
Marathon
3hrs 3.15
3.30 3.45 4hrs
4.15 4.30
Each time slot
will have two pace runners allocated. The “A Pacer” at the front
of the pack and the “B Pacer” at the rear. The A Pacer will be
setting the pace and the B Pacer will be on hand to offer
encouragement to any runners who may be dropping off the pace.

Being a pace
runner is incredibly rewarding. This is what Gary Mayor had to
say following his experience at the 2004 Gold Coast Airport
Marathon.
Just a special thanks for
giving me the opportunity to be a 1hr. 40 min pace-setter again
in this years Gold Coast Half Marathon.
It was another memorable
occasion, the highlight for me was the numerous people that came
up to me after the event and congratulated me on my consistent
pacing. I didn't take the balloons off for a good half hour
because I was really enjoying all the adulation.
It’s a very satisfying feeling
to have helped these athletes achieve their goals, and look
forward to doing the same next year.
Regards, Gary Mayor

Here is some feedback from one of the runners I got across
the line under 3hrs.

To adequately carry out
the pace runner role you will need to be able to comfortably run
the pace you have nominated for. You also need to be prepared to
offer encouragement and motivate runners in your pack.
The Gold Coast Airport Marathon
will cover the costs of entry fees for all pacers and one
night's accommodation (Holiday Inn Surfers Paradise) for all 'A' pacers. Accommodation is based
on a share basis with a fellow pace runner (same gender). If you
require a room to yourself you will be asked to pay for half the
room cost.
Unfortunately due to budgetary
restraints we are unable to offer free accommodation to B pace
runners.
All pace runners will also receive
a “PatCarrollOnline Pacer” singlet, presented as they are
introduced at the
Motivational Seminar.
If you would like to apply for a
pace runner role please
submit your details here.
I will be advising all applicants
who applied if they have been successful or not in the first
week of June.
Cheers
Pat Carroll
