  • Pat,

If you are a Newsletter subscriber and have never attended a PCRG group session, our 15 week ''Countdown to Gold Coast'' campaign may entice you to become involved.

Next Tuesday we will all be setting sail for the Gold Coast Airport Marathon/ Half Marathon or 10k. I have been successful in obtaining a number of sponsors who will be supporting us during our 15 week campaign.

At every group session you will not only be training with an extremely motivating group of individuals but you will also be eligible to win prizes such as dinner vouchers/movie tickets and running apparel.

You will be able to nominate a fellow group member for a prize and you will also have the chance to nominate yourself for a free massage. I have also locked in three more sponsors for a group breakfast.

I can assure you that for a little over $6/session (members who pay in advance) you are all in for a real treat. Further details about our campaign will be revealed at the campaign launch.

Our campaign launch and injury prevention talk @ 6.30pm on Friday 31st March at The Ship Inn is open to anyone who wishes to come along (no cost). This is not an exclusive PCRG night.

If you are able to attend can you please RSVP by return email ASAP.

I will be doing my utmost to ensure our campaign is a huge success, all I ask of PCRG members is to show commitment.

I wrote a brief article on commitment a few days ago and I have already had feedback from two runners who said the brief article helped them overcome their weak side. You will find the article here.

Phil Wright is a relatively new member of the group however when asking for pace runners to help out at last week’s 3k Time Trial, Phil was one of the first to put his hand up. People like Phil help make the PCRG a supportive network. Thanks for helping out Phil!

I hope you enjoy getting to know Phil Wright just a little bit more.

Catch you ALL in the morning.

    Cheers

    Pat

P.S. Please take the time to submit your Gold Coast goal. All group members who submit a goal and who also attend the campaign launch will be eligible to win a random draw prize.

Thorpe's out, Mottram's well and truly in!

The attached article was written by one of the all time greats in distance running (Steve Cram) about a man who is the ''Ian Thorpe'' of the athletics track.

    Phil Wright 'uncut'

I work as a Computer Trainer (software applications), live at Spring Hill and have lived in Brisbane since October 2005 and joined the Pat Carroll running group in November 2005.

My favourite restaurant is Brisbane Yum Cha, because the service is good and friendly, and the food tastes good.

My earliest childhood memory aged about four is falling head first down some slippery steps in a local park whilst playing with my dad. (luckily I only needed about 6 stitches on my forehead)

Now that I have a 3 year old son I need to set the example as the adult, even though he sometimes thinks he’s the adult.

My favourite movie is probably one with Stallone in it, such as Rambo or the Rocky series. Recently I’ve watched Monsters, Inc., Finding Nemo and the Incredibles quite a few times.

Brisbane City is a great place to live because I can now attend Pat’s sessions and there are numerous running groups close by. It’s also handy to work, and not as hot or cold as Ipswich.

My regular holiday destination is nowhere (I don’t go anywhere for my holidays. I’m quite happy to relax around home). Although in the past Mooloolaba was great to visit, while at the same time watching the Triathlon.

If money was no option I would not change much for myself personally. I’m a very simple person who enjoys spending time with my wife and my little boy Joshua.

It frustrates me when I hear other runners complaining about having to run “another lap” or so. If they really don’t like it, they should take up tennis or something.

I have been involved in running since March 2004 and my most memorable running experience is turning up for a 5K race in Ipswich, but then driving back home. (At the time I didn’t think I would make the distance).

I enjoy distance running because of the “lasting high feeling” you get until the next run.

My favourite run is any run with the “Pat Carrollers” and also Brisbane Running Buddies. The friendly and supportive atmosphere is fantastic.

Motivation is something that comes from within, and I have plenty of.

Injuries are something I have experienced very recently, probably because I wanted to do “too much too soon” etc. Like other things in life I will learn from it and be better in the future.

The birth of my son Joshua was a turning point in my life because when you are 39 years old and you haven’t had kids before your life changes dramatically. (I haven’t had a good nights sleep for just over 3 years, although this makes getting up in the morning easier, because I’m already awake).

The Pat Carroll running group are a great bunch of motivated people who make running all the more fun.

I prefer running in Brisbane because Ipswich is too hot!!

Running is not difficult but can be very challenging.

The best advice somebody once gave me was never look back. (This is also very true with running)

Back in the 80’s Grant Kenny inspired me and more recently a mate of mine who started competing in Ironman events at aged 54 (when things are getting tough for me, I think of how hard it is for him). I will try not to regret anything because good or bad, life goes on.

    Gold Coast 2006 - GOALS

I will post your Gold Coast 2006 Goal on my site as well as on a board which will be displayed at the group sessions.

I encourage you to accept the challenge.

Please get out your diaries, your PATHWAY to success will involve these important dates.
