  • Hey Tiger!
  • Pat,

You may all be pleased to know (or maybe not) that the group sessions will continue throughout the festive season and we will be having a Christmas theme on the Thursday prior to Christmas.

Please feel free to come along to our Christmas run dressed in your favourite red nighty and for all of the ladies in the group, I will leave the decision up to you as to what you will wear.

Dan Kelly is one guy who doesn't mind donning a lovely red frock on the odd occasion and in his profile he has touched on his 'costume' fetish. I hope you enjoy getting to know Dan Kelly just that little bit more.

Catch you ALL in the morning.

    Cheers

    Pat

P.S There have been a number of items left behind in the box @ training and I will make it known if any valuable items are unclaimed. At the bottom of the newsletter you will find the latest unclaimed 'valuable' item.

    Our Athlete of the Month

The person belonging to these pins is out Athlete of the Month.

In the following link you will find a brief report on this months Time Trial along with complete results.

    Dan Kelly 'uncut'

I work as hard as possible as a Barrister (yes I get to wear the wig and stuff). I live in Norman Park in a half renovated house, have lived in Brisbane since I was dragged here from Mackay at age 6 and joined the Pat Carroll running group in desperation after twice failing to run a half marathon any where close to a predicted time.

My favourite restaurant is subject to change depending on the service, food and wine but I do like Circa for a special occasion and Isis when I want to take my own wine.

My earliest childhood memory is losing control of a pink horse on wheels and crashing head first into the dirt. Dirt and blood in your mouth makes a lasting impression. I was 3 alright!

Having a child means you often have to act like an adult.

My favourite movie is obviously forgettable.

Brisbane City is a place where you can live a great life because of its affordability, weather, and facilities. It also seems to attract really nice people from Mackay and other places.

My regular holiday destination is irregular. I tend to vary each year depending on whether I feel the need to look at things or to do nothing. Doing nothing involves a unit overlooking the beach and a surfboard. Looking at things involves being overseas.

If money was no option I would open a wine store/bar in a coastal town in Italy.

It frustrates me when people are stupid.

I have been involved in running since I was in my teens. Never very fast or for very long but I did it despite not being good at it not because I wasn’t good at it and my most memorable running experience is running the Mathers 8 million millimetre fun run when I was 17. My mate Stewart and I had trained for it by running up Mt Gravatt Mountain twice each Saturday morning for weeks but we still ran too fast too early and blew up. Hang on, I still race like that.

I enjoy distance running because when I tell people they say “but you don’t look like a runner” (actually that shits me) I enjoy it because it’s hard and very very satisfying. Any run is an achievement.

My favourite run is the City to Surf in costume.

Motivation is something I reach out to find each morning when the alarm goes off only to discover that someone has moved it during the night. And I live alone!

Injuries are the bain of my running life. But are manageable.

Becoming a Father was a turning point in my life because you have to accept that you are responsible for someone other than yourself and that your actions do affect other people.

The Pat Carroll running group are a great group of motivated supportive maniacs doing something they love. I get a big kick out of introducing people to a session with the group. The enthusiasm and commitment is inspiring.

I prefer running in the dark because I have soft footfalls and I like scaring people when I run up behind them.

Running is easy. Stopping can be difficult especially when going downhill.

The best advice a woman ever gave me was to maintain an excellent technique with my fine attention to detail.

Any person who overcomes their particular adversity to achieve their goals inspires me. I will try to live a life having no regret.

    No Watch 1k

Please try to remember to bring a Gold Coin in the morning.

We have raised $950 for Camp Quality to date (which is fantastic) and at an average cost of $500 to send a child affected by cancer away on a Camp we are well on the way to making a difference to the lives of two children.

    Good on you Claire!

Claire was on a real high following her 3K pb and she managed to come out with this cracker of a line:

“I don’t want to leave you guys and go to work because nobody there understands how I am feeling”.

Whilst still on cloud 999 Claire took the time to reflect on her December 2005 3K Time Trial.

    Group runs this weekend

The Brisbane Running Buddies and the Regatta Runners are starting at The Regatta Hotel this Saturday at 6.00am. Runners will be doing varying distances from around 8k up to about 25k or more depending on what they are training for. Some are doing a flat run and others may run over Mt Coot-tha from there. Brekky/coffee afterwards at The Regatta.

    All welcome!
