Pat, I am often asked what the appropriate length of time required to prepare for a 10k/Half Marathon or Marathon would be. I believe that a campaign can never start soon enough however when taking into account that time throughout the year needs to be devoted to the family and other commitments this is often not possible and understandably so. The truth of the matter is that the longer your campaign the greater the chance you will have reach a higher fitness plateau than previously and you will also be less likely to injure yourself along the way. 2007 is fast drawing to a close which can often find us thinking about the future and what 2008 will involve. The first major distance running event on the 2008 Australian calendar is the Canberra Marathon. The Canberra Marathon is famous for being blessed with ideal weather conditions and the course is fast. If you intend running in the 2008 Canberra Marathon I urge you to start locking in your plan of attack because it's just over 30 weeks away - April 13.
