  • Pat,

If you've locked in the Gold Coast Airport Marathon/Half Marathon or 10k there's a strong chance you are about to seriously commit to your campaign because there's "only" 20 weeks remaining until race day.

Here are some tips to help keep you on track:

    • When you adopt a challenging workload there is always a possibility that an injury will strike. Icing a niggle post run will go a long way towards reducing early stage inflammation. This site will "possibly" help with identifying your injury. A sports physiotherapist and/or a podiatrist will provide an accurate diagnosis and treatment.
    • Keep a training diary. I was always a slave to my training diary, and every Sunday night I would tally up the kilometres I had run that week. Prior to a major race, I would look back through my diary and gain confidence by sighting the continual 180km-plus weeks I had been ploughing through.
    • Avoiding a run simply because you don't feel like it is not an option. Look upon each training run as kilometres in the bank. The more you bank, the more you will have in reserve to tap into on race day. Stay true to yourself!
    • Display your Gold Coast goal for all to see. As a motivating factor, post your goal on the white board in your office or on the fridge door at home. Your goal may be to run continuously throughout the Marathon, Sub 2hrs for the Half Marathon, or Sub 50min for the 10k.
