How did you feel once you crossed the line and
stopped running? Did your body shutdown, so to speak, or were
you able to walk down the finishing shoot ok?
LT:
I was stuffed. My body shut down and I had my hands on my knees
for a good 5mins. People were grabbing me and trying to escort
me. I kept telling them to leave me alone. I had mixed emotions
straight away on whether I ran well or not.
Athens
is next
PC:
You have had a week to reflect on how you went however did you
feel pleased with your performance immediately after the race?
LT: After the race I was happy that I was so competitive and had a
go. I know all these guys will be in Athens and I can replicate
my position. I was disappointed in my time as I worked so hard
and ran so well and was 9 secs off my p.b. It peeved me that
last year I ran 2.09:49 in a B grade marathon and a year later
at the biggest marathon in the world I ran slower yet I was
fitter.
Now
that it has been a week, I have been a little bit more lenient.
I did everything possible to run 2.07 and be competitive and the
only thing that let me down was the only thing I could not
control; the weather. Everyone dropped 2 mins and you had 2.04
guys running 2.06/07 and 2.06 guys running 2.08/09 so I can take
something out of that. If I can do everything that I did, have
the conditions as bad as they were, get tired and still break
2hrs 10min off 63.10 for the half, then I am happy. The
important thing is that I cannot fault my effort or race at all.
I ran as well as I could on the day with no excuses. People may
look at my time and say it was not that good and in the results
it does not have in brackets how bad the day was, but I know and
that is the important thing to me!
PC:
How have you pulled up and have you run since the race?
LT:
I have run everyday since the race for I am trying to keep my
consecutive days (Over 2 years) intact till the Olympics. My
body feels fine but I will not really know till week 2 and 3
when I start doing more running. I feel as I have normally felt
after my other races.
