Congratulations on
London Lee. I know that you had a real tough
go, a real gutsy effort mate. If conditions were favourable no
doubt you would of possibly held form over the final 5k and the
beers would be tasting much sweeter now. But that's life and on
the upside, for myself, I don't have to go and adjust my bio
changing my all-time Australian ranking in the Marathon from 4th
to 5th.
What I would
like to do Lee, whilst London is still fresh in your mind, is to
discover how you felt before, during and after the race.
Pat Carroll:
Did you manage to sleep the night before or were you too worked
up?
Lee Troop:
I actually struggled to get some sleep. I slept well two nights
before. I was hoping to be up at 6am but was out of bed at 5am.
First time in a long time I struggled for some sleep so it shows
I was nervous.
"I felt fine from the time
I woke up............"
PC:
You would have had a light breakfast of tea and toast (sorry
mate but I know you only too well, vegemite isn't it?). Did you
feel relaxed during your final moments at the hotel, on the bus
to the race and also during your warm up?
LT:
I did only have toast (with vegemite) and tea. I felt fine from
the time I woke up, to the bus ride out and warm up. I really
just wanted to get amongst the action. I hate the delay for
things!
PC:
Is there anything special that you do in the final 24 hrs prior
to the race to help you stay relaxed rather than constantly
ponder over the what if's?
LT:
Not really. I keep things normal like go and have a coffee etc.
You have to get your drink bottles ready, uniform and numbers
ready etc. So you spend most of the day before preparing which
helps waste time.
The calm before the storm
PC:
How long did you run for in your warm up?
LT:
I only jogged for 10mins, with light stretching and a few
strides. As it is going to be raced over 42km, I think I have
plenty of time in the race to get warmed up.
