TIME TO ICE THE CAKE

Last
weekend I was in Sydney for the Sydney Morning Herald Half
Marathon. Statistics from the race reveal the profession
represented the most by both male and female is the medical
profession. It’s encouraging to see that the people who look
after our health are leading by example. The age group most
represented with a total of 42% was 30-39 and at the other end
of the scale the group least represented with a total of 2% was
the over 60’s.
'Frank
Dearn' a true inspiration
I attended
the Sydney Striders dinner on Friday night and I met one of the
older club members, Frank Dearn who is 72 years of age. Frank
competes in Marathons, he ran the Half on Sunday and recently
the Epic 45km 6 FOOT track run through the Blue Mountains. Frank
advised me that he took up running in his 40’s and it was
evident that he now enjoys every moment of his involvement.

Steve
Moneghetti ran on Sunday and his competitive nature is still
with him, placing third. It was exciting to see a guy who had
previously set two World records over the Half Marathon to put
in just as much effort, if not more, than when he was running
over 4 minutes faster.
The
runners who closed down Sydney’s city for the best part of three
hours all had a common reason for being there. This being 21.1k
filled with a mixture of enjoyment, achievement and a public
display for one’s appreciation for life. Frank and Steve along
with the 5000 plus other runners ALL deserve equal recognition
for their performances on Sunday. Congratulations everyone.
Great run
Nicholas!
The next
major event on the Australian distance running calendar is the
Gold Coast Airport Marathon on July 3. After the race on
Sunday I met with one of my online clients who was ecstatic with
his performance and his new personal best. Nicholas is running
in the Marathon on the Gold Coast and is looking to better the
3.05 he ran in 2004.
With less
than 6 weeks to Gold Coast Nicholas is on target to dip under
3hrs however he still has time to ensure this does happen.
When
taking into consideration that the final two weeks leading into
a major race is centered around cutting back in your workload,
this only leaves Nicholas with less than 4 weeks to put the
icing on the cake. Let’s assume Nicholas is in 3.01 shape at
present and the next 4 weeks or so is where he has to find that
61 seconds. Every run Nicholas does from here on in should be
enveloped with a drive to become just that little bit stronger
and with a frequent chant “2.59” “2.59”.
Write your
goal on an A4 piece of paper ........
If you are
running the 10k, Half Marathon or Marathon on the Gold Coast
then you also can look upon the next 4 weeks as a period that is
going to play a major role in enabling you to achieve your goal.
Write your goal on an A4 piece of paper along with the training
runs you have planned to undertake over the next 6 weeks and
place it on your fridge door. When each run is accomplished,
cross it off and when doing so feel the excitement that comes
with being one step closer to achieving your goal.
Life is
often about making the most of your opportunities. You still
have time to ensure you leave no stone unturned in relation to
the opportunity which awaits you on July 3.
