FOCUSED
I was at a running forum a couple of years ago and this guy was
a guest speaker and he was telling a story about a cold
miserable night that he and his family experienced when they
went out for dinner.
I was hardly paying attention as he told the initial part of his
story. This being where he went into great detail to describe
the torrential downfall of rain, the cold wind, driving along
and having difficulty seeing out of the windscreen of his
vehicle. He dropped his family at the door, parked his car in
the car park and made a mad dash for the door of the restaurant.
The lone runner
When inside the comfort of the warm restaurant he said that he
was glancing outside on the street and thought that there is no
way anybody would be out in those conditions tonight. Sure
enough, as he sat there this runner came past, braving the
conditions
The reason he was telling this story was that he was amazed at
the commitment this runner displayed by still training in a
torrential storm and he was using this experience as a way to
explain that commitment and dedication is essential if you wish
to achieve your best.
He then caught me out by saying........
I was sitting back thinking, well mate you are not telling me
anything that is new to me. He then caught me out by stating
that the guy who was running past the restaurant that night was
in fact Pat Carroll (ME), yes me. Well, I certainly snapped out
of my half sleep and sat a bit taller in my chair. "Boody Hell"
I thought, this guy is talking about me.
