To the Members of PCRG

Sunday (Gold
Coast 2006) was an amazing day.

Liz and
I became Marathoners.
Months of
preparation went into that day.
And yes it
was all worth it.
Something
which happened in the last 100m made the day truly great.
As we rounded
the last bend, as he has on all of our training runs, Steve
Farne Sang gave us a wave. He was stationed as a lookout,
hours after he had run his race for the day, and on seeing us
approach ran ahead to alert the group.
As we ran
down the incline to the finish we were greeted by wild
cheering and clapping and the yelling of congratulations from
members of PCRG, most of whom had finished many hours earlier,
and their family and friends, who had stayed around to cheer
us home.
We were
surprised, delighted (as you can see by Liz's face in the
photos) overawed and humbled by that act.
In fact I was
a little emotional as well.

That
moment, more than the crossing of the finish line, is
something we will treasure. That sort of spirit is beyond my
meagre ability with words. But it's what makes us love being
part of this Group of runners.
So to those
of you who made a wonderful occasion that much more memorable
by your selfless act of support we say, from the heart;

We are proud
and humble to call you our friends.
