THE 2004 SUN HERALD CITY TO SURF
I have met a few famous people in my time and recently added
another to the list. On the eve of the Sun Herald City to Surf we met
'THE
ROCK'. We knew that he was staying in the same hotel and
Susan's son asked if we could get his autograph and to say to
him, "Hey Rock, I can smell what you're cooking". Apparently he
yells out "If you smeeeell what THE ROOOCK is cooking" at his
WWE wrestling bouts.
We spotted him in the foyer and while Susan cornered The Rock I
went to find pen & paper. Consumed by the presence of a living
God, Susan's girlish manner was resurrected at the sight of his
perfect complexion. Susan ATTEMPTED to relay the words from her
son to the effect of "My son said to say that you're a good
cook". Amazingly the guy still gave his autograph.
Now to the greatest road race in the World
A few days before the Sun Herald City to Surf I read a post on
coolruning from a character who questioned why would you
want to
run from Sydney's City to Bondi Beach with 60,000 other runners
when you can run it any other day of the year by yourself.

Dressing gown man was one of the
first to arrive
60,000 participants, 60,000 Stories
As I sat in the commentary box at the start I caught glimpses of
the thousands of runners as they headed off down William Street.
Somewhere in amongst the masses was Merl Wheeler who has run in
EVERY Sun Herald City to Surf apart from the first which she missed simply
because she did not know it was on.
Earlier this year Merl, aged 80, and her husband George, 81 had
been walking from the South Sydney Juniors club to their bus
stop after a night of dancing when a thug grabbed her handbag,
pulling her to the ground.
She spent the next month recovering from a broken pelvis and
several fractures in one of her legs.
